We all remember our first red lolly. The kind that stained your tongue, ruined your white T-shirt, and was worth every last bit of your pocket money. Well, our Red L0lly is just as tempting, but a little less edible. The red comes from a tinted sapphire crystal, letting the light through just like its namesake, with a sunburst waiting in the metal beneath. Powered by a new hand-wound Swiss Sellita, with a full 63 hours of reserve to see you through the weekend getaway, and lumed markers for those nights under the stars. Summer flavour, without the sticky fingers.
A cut above
If we do say so ourselves.
Sitting above the base dial is a 1mm disc of sapphire, cut and finished to carry the branding, minute track and numerals. Beneath it, a base layer that leaves the light to the heavy lifting. The two are pinned together by hand, giving the dial genuine complexity and depth. In daylight the upper printing appears to float, casting a soft shadow on the layer below; tilt the watch toward the light and the shadows move with it, so the dial never quite settles. Complex, considered, with a bit more going on beneath the surface. Much like the enthusiast who wears it.
Wind up, to wind down
If you can spare the moment. The Gen2 takes Sellita’s updated movement, the SW200-2 M, which lifts the power reserve from 42 hours to 63. A field watch is wound by hand, in the tradition of the originals, and there’s a quiet pleasure in that; the difference those extra 21 hours make is that one wind now sees you clean through the weekend. So wind it up on Friday, and the two of you can wind down gently till Monday.
True colours
For our signature splash of colour, the sapphire crystal is tinted, set over a silver sunray base that catches the light as the wrist moves. It’s a technique we first used on the Manhattan, and liked far too much to use only once. Translucent, moreish, and never quite the same shade twice. The sort of thing you only get from doing things the harder way. Which, on reflection, we rather enjoy.
Assembled in Great Britain
Every Studio Underd0g is assembled entirely in-house, in Great Britain, by our own team. Not passed down a line, but built start to finish by a single pair of hands. Whosever hands they are, their initials go on the paperwork that comes with it. Built by one of us, and worn, we rather hope, by one of you.
